The current "big thing" online right now is a video making the rounds called "Judge William Adams beats daughter for using the internet". The "daughter" here is our very own "Shoe of all Cosmos", a very close friend of mine and former GA columnist who presently maintains our partner website RetardedCustomers.com. She is the victim in this video, which she smartly recorded and has sat on for the past 7 years.

Hillary has been on the phone with newsmedia folks, and strangely enough my own Twitter and email accounts have been inundated with other outlets asking me for contacts as well as even questions (e.g. Gawker). It has been one hell of a crazy night, and it is far from over.
Please continue to share this video. Everybody needs to see this, everybody needs to know. Hillary has given a voice to thousands of currently and previous abused children to hopefully come forth and speak about violence in their home. I suggested the possibility of this to her, and she wholeheartedly agrees with it and we're both happy about it.

Kidding aside, I saw this at Twitter and Facebook and never gave a shite about it. Although I was thinking she looked familiar but I never opened the video. Until I checked on GA to make my last. Wow, I never realized it was shoes. I was a victim of child abuse too (by my father, have a huge scar on my chest because of that) and holy shit, why beat someone (who already knows has a condition) is she has a valid reason. As someone said, what you do today will make a mark on the future (OK, I made that up.) and for me, would always be true.

For the past 4 hours I've been spreading it around facebook, telling people, sharing because it really hits me when someone I know is involved.
Shoe is a very Strong girl. If I was treated like that at this age I would've taken my own life by now. :/

Edit Edit Edit Edit: I apologize for my rage. When I was younger my dad had some depression problems and his parents raised him by using physical punishment so he began using it on me and my siblings. It was much milder but it still reminds me of that rough part of my dad's life as a parent.
I cringed last night when I watched the video on reddit. It's amazing that I have a connection to the person I felt so much sadness for. I am happy you were able to stand up against your abuse and I hope your sister can be removed from the situation.

Aside from being covered by Gawker, CNN.com has also picked up the video, which interestingly has been shared by (at the time of this posting) over 61,000 Facebook users. Tim Heidecker (https://twitter.com/#!/timheidecker/status/131854392537264129) of Tim and Eric just recently tweeted about it too.
The outpour of support and attention this has gotten in such a short timeframe is amazing. This should certainly serve as justice for Shoe's dad and hopefully as a wakeup call to him.
Some have been arguing, whether trolling or not, that what Judge Adams did was justified under the clause of child discipline. I know most, if not all, of you see that how her father reacted clearly crossed the line between discipline and physical (as well as verbal) abuse. The majority of these people arguing Judge Adams's side are guys, so I'd like to point out that for a boy to be hit by a belt is an entirely different realm than for a teenage girl, albeit there is still a fine line between abuse and discipline there, too.
I don't think we've seen the end of this just yet.

I still am very impressed by Shoe's composure and response to all of this. She has done a great job of speaking the truth and being a mature person.
Kudos to you Hilary. I showed my family all of this and they are very supportive of you and think of you as a strong girl.

@ John: Not trying to imply anything, but obviously you see the main (if not the only) reason this has gained some part of media's attention is that her father is a judge.
But no doubt for the community here everything about shoe's condition is a matter of importance.

I told my father that I am a writer on a forum run by a friend of Shoe, and now he's telling people that we regularly work together.
That is not entirely accurate, but he's not very fazed when I tell him so.

Being so close to this is as it happens is actually kind of surreal.
Some developing news regarding Judge Adam's dog, interestingly... @Reporterfox tweeted (https://twitter.com/#!/Reporterfox/status/132251640244867073) that Judge Adams' dog was walking around the neighborhood "terrorizing the area." Hillary replied (https://twitter.com/#!/shoeofallcosmos/status/132255415856672768) stating that the dog was sick and needed heart medicine, asking if anyone was around to take care of him/her. The reply (https://twitter.com/#!/Reporterfox/status/132255653392678912) - and Hillary's response (https://twitter.com/#!/shoeofallcosmos/status/132256275902889984) to that tweet. The gist of it is that the dog that Judge Adams is responsible over taking care of, seemingly the family's pet, was left alone. Judge Adams was in Portland according to a text that Hillary tweeted (picture (https://twitter.com/#!/shoeofallcosmos/status/132249254117904385)).

They said the next re-election is 3 years anyway. Also, according to The Today Show, while he can't be charged, he could be punished by other state workers who regulate the judicial system there, such as revoking his criminal law license or whatever it's called. For now he's not allowed to judge child abuse cases. Instead, a "visiting judge" will handle those.

It is possible. I think it would be clearly evident and rather irrelevant to mention in the interview if it were related to drugs or alcohol.
