View Full Version : What is considered spam?

So, I've had a discussion via PM with a certain moderator who believes a thread I posted is spam. I merely received a warning for this, so I should be unconcerned, but this left me in a state of awe that a forum based off of RFSHQ, a forum that defined the phrase "anything goes", could be so uptight that they actually disallow posting of threads that would be deemed appropriate on stricter sites such as Miniclip forums. Plus, this forum allows full use of language.

My thread was a commentary about how strict the penguin chat room "The Important Snakes" is, which was ironic as shortly after posting the thread, I received a private message from a moderator telling me that my thread was spam. So, it's not okay to post a thread lightly mocking a chat room if the moderator who sees the thread is a fan of that chat room? In its first day this forum has turned into China.

No offense aimed at Draco or any of the other people here, and none aimed at the moderator who issued me the warning. I'm assuming you're still learning, and you're not sure yet what spam is.

And please do not delete this thread or penalize me for posting it. I would like to read peoples' opinions on what the true definition of spam is, and whether moderators have the right to interpret posts as they please.

Look, if it makes you feel any better, I'll even give you a link to the definition of Forum Spam on Wikipedia.

Looks like spam to me.

Spam is just the usual. In your case, the first writing post was NOT spam, because you didn't know about this sort of forums. The second one, though, was spam. Because it was already explained to you, the second one was just persistant. It was considered spam.

Why, it offers conversation. On the Who's Online list, three people were going to respond to the thread when you deleted it.

Spam doesn't contribute at all to discussion. My thread was going to start a discussion. It wasn't harmful to anybody, it wasn't there just to be there, it wasn't a postathon... please give me a detailed explanation on how the thread was spam.

EDIT: Dragonfire, that wasn't what I was talking about, but as Captain Fiskers even admitted, neither of those threads were spam.

That was arrogance on my part. I didn't find it to be spam at all- I simply read the offer to write for the forums, and closed it once I read that part. I reopened it now, and deleted the second one- there's nothing wrong with something displaying your writing/art/etc.

Oh, ok. I thought it was spam anyways. Sorry. Anyway, I'm a writer too. Want to team up?

I would like to say Rigs:

a) The Important Snakes ISN'T a penguin chatroom, lot's of people from MCCP use it. We chat a lot about different things, and not about penguin stuff.

b) Why mock it? Just wondering after you were banned there.

c) We are strict, and we have a set of easy rules, also. I didn't make the rules, blame Vital Viper. He want's his chat safe, and not full of swearing, etc.

On topic:

I think whatever is in the staff's rulebook is spam. Every moderator is different, and this could be just a case were the moderator is a little stricter than they were on RFShq or whatever.

Nobody here cares about The Important Snakes. Nobody. We have rules regarding bringing drama here from other places and they are there for a reason. That goes for MCCP, Miniclip, RFSHQ, or anywhere else.

Read the rules. We are not RFSHQ. We are GatorAIDS. Don't criticize my staff when they are in the right. That's all I have to say. I am locking this thread now.
