Who came up with the idea that a Macintosh wasn't a personal computer, anyway

I have used a Macintosh and a PC, i prefer the PC, as you can get more choice of O.S. Like Windows, Linux and hell even Unix. Point is that PC'S have more of a choice, and are infact less space consuming and more 'Family' freindly.
I HONESTLY cant see a 6 year old using a Mac, but i can imagine a 6 year old Using a Laptop or a PC.

Macs are PC's made by apple. So basically its Mac PC's vs Every Other PC.

Well i run OSX on a custom built PC, and it runs just as well as a mac with same hardware, so there really no better than any other PC. They can run OSX, and operating system that costs 30$, and for that OS, your paying twice as much as you would for a computer with the same hardware, thats perfectly capable of running OSX given the effort.

500$ for PC + 30$ for operating system = 1000+$ mac with same specs?

Well they do have a lot less than windows, but linux probably has the least amount.

You can run other OS's on macs now. For like, awhile now xD
Its called bootcamp.

Also macs are definitely easier to use, its more than reasonable to see 6 years old using macs, my cousin does and hes like 6. He knows some stuff about macs even i dont know xD

You probably havent seen a mac or OSX in awhile but its really cleaned up since 10.5 i think.

That blowfish still disturbs me for some reason I don't know. Also, it doesn't come with much of a UI so have fun with that one.

You still have to pay for the parts xD Well most of my parts are handmydowns from my dad's PC but yeah. Actually im getting a ram upgrade to 8gb's soon. I was talking about the worth of the computer rather, not how much i bought it for, since i didnt buy it all it once. It was built up and upgraded.

Still suprised it even works :P

I've had these silly debates with my Dad as he is a free lance illustrator and complete Mac fag.
I have used both and can safely say Windows is far more open and has easier navigation.
And bootcamp? Okay well there is also Hackintosh for PC users so that's not actually a legit argument.

All it is: ubuntu with some bloatware preinstalled, that you could have installed yourself if you wanted to.

So Compiz, themes, google chrome(not chromium), GIMP, blender, and other stuff is bloatware?

Have you even tried it?

I don't need compiz, i can install my own themes, i prefer chromium, i hate GIMP, and i don't have any use for blender. Id rather install what I want, linux is all about your customizations, i dont want their premade customizations.

I still prefer Arch Linux, because you don't get a user interface. You have to install all of it on your own, which makes things much easier for me, seeing as how I hate GNOME (I use Fluxbox), and special effects are useless to me, and more of a waste of resources than anything. Although, I wish Arch had apt...

Arch is awesome, but Fluxbox is not ;P

As a designer i can't have a UI that is worse than what me myself could make, i need inspiration somewhere, why do you think I have OSX installed :kirby101:

Mac are way better in looks software and hardware wise, but PC's are more practical. And as for the virus argument, 2 PC's still doesn't match the price of an iMac. (assuming it's a normal computer)

Not all PC's look bad, especially if you build them yourself, and actually hide the computer and case away from sight in your desk :L

I have a wireless keyboard that looks exactly like the apple one but in black. Add a wireless mouse, dual screens, and hackintoshed tor run Snow Leopard, and you save yourself 500$ for almost the exact same experience.

Still have to buy the Lion update though. I could pirate it, but I don't want to rip off apple even more than I already am by running OSX on my PC ;P

Besides, I'm not a designer. I'm more of a hobbyist developer. And although I can understand the UI inspiring the designer a bit, when EVERYTHING EVER LOOKS LIKE APPLE, you have a bit of an issue. (Not saying you do that, but there are people who do). Glossy rounded rectangles that only use Helvetica do get boring after a while.

Although, once again, this is coming from the perspective of a person who doesn't do much with design. I prefer functionality and cleanliness over design. (And although Mac may be "clean", it's not just a single taskbar with keyboard shortcuts to all required programs)

Who uses Helvetica, Helvetica Neue Ultralight is where it's at ;D

JK, My favorite font as of now is actually trechbucket MS probably. But OSX does have the best UI, even if a lot of it is glossy rounded rectangles. How long somebody spends on a design doesn't mean its better or worse. That's like saying one poems better than the other because its longer. But OSX designs work on OSX. The simpleness of it all inspires me, but I'm not about to go try to make OS11 by myself, what I make is my own stuff.

OSX is also great for development, or rather, web development, my favorite kind. And with advances in html (html5), web development may no longer be limited to only the web, and become universal code for applications and games as well.

Yes, because of this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AmigaOS_4

You must have been an Atari ST fan or something, which is cool, Ataris were better in some respects like MIDI sequencing and stuff but what was up with that sound chip, man? You make a lightning fast 16-bit machine with graphics power comparable to the Amiga (ie: very good) and you STICK A THREE-VOICE BEEPER ON IT!? 0_o Don't get me wrong, I love chiptunes (and especially Atari ST chiptunes, they personally sound better to me than SIDtunes) but commercially not going with a sample chip or even a DMA DAC chip like the Paula was a mistake.

Almost the same experience my ass. Even if you get the exact components as a Mac is not the same for long term use. I've seen how the engineers make these bastards and it's amazing.

I've had this computer for at least 8 years. Grant it, i've gotten upgrades over the year, but most of that is hand-me down parts from my dad's computer. 750$ max has gone into this computer and it still runs great 8 years later. That's the beauty of making a PC yourself. OS's aside, I prefer computers I can customize every individual part myself, which I can't say you can do for Apple's line of PC's.

Mac's are personal computers, yes >.<
