View Full Version : NDAA (the f*ck you we're the government act) signed into law by Obama
President Fuhrer Barack Obama signed into law today the National Defense Authorization act which basically allows the government to arrest indefinitely anyone whom it suspects to be connected to terrorism, without any chance for trial, even if you're an American citizen. So basically, even if you're innocent, anything that may connect you to terrorism will get you thrown in a concentration camp for the rest of your life without trial.
[The act is so bad that that] the official Russian international radio broadcasting service Voice of Russia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voice_of_Russia) has compared the Act to legislation passed by the Third Reich; the Act has been opposed by the ACLU (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACLU) and Human Rights (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Rights_Watch) Watch, and received criticism from The New York Times (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_York_Times), the World Socialist Web Site (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Socialist_Web_Site) and other news organizations.

without trial.
What's the reasoning they presented in this for why this wouldn't violate the 6th and 7th ammendment?

They didn't present any, unfortunately.

See you in Canada. (I'm serious.)
Also I guess I should delete my draft of the article "4 Reasons Why America Lost the War on Terror" (no really, that exists on GA).

I'm actually curious to know how many folks, when they say "I'm leaving this country to go to _______", are genuinely being serious?
Like, I've joked about it before. But I see NDAA, SOPA, and Protect IP Act, and not to mention Occupy Wall Street and the support behind it and how... ineffective it is. Now NDAA is actual legislature. That's scary. That's some fucking Minority Report shit, right there. People joke and say "haha they're always watching like in 1984" but this is IRL fucking Thought Police.
I am getting the hell out of here. Tomorrow (later today I guess), I am filling out paperwork to apply for a US passport because I intend to visit Toronto, Ontario in April when my boyfriend settles into his new apartment. That's something I am serious about. I intend to visit him at least a couple of times, and stay a while each time, and if things are working out then I plan on taking my things and moving to Canada, becoming a resident, applying for citizenship, and expatriating from the United States.
This isn't "haha wouldn't it be cool if..." bullshit. I am being completely serious.
And I've always wondered how many other people are ACTUALLY actively planning on moving to another country when they say things like that.

If I had more reason to move, like you do, and if I were older and had enough money, I would think about moving.

If I were older I might consider moving especially if SOPA somehow passes. But lawl, I'd rather move to mexico, than Canada.

Lol..I just love it that you guys don't realize that we're probably having a new president in 25 days.
Would be a shame if all the good stuff were to happen while Draco is at Canada

A new President cannot fix this country. As loathable as Obama is right now for signing NDAA into effect he TRIED to fix things when he showed up in office. It's just not feasible, but I don't really know what Obama's problem is or what his motives are.
There was an economic meltdown and a terrorist attack on the country in the Bush administration. Snide remarks about G. W. aside, that's some heavy shit to deal with. Yes, Bush is probably retarded but that could have been anybody in his chair when the shit hit the fan. No, Bush did not handle things well or appropriately, but honestly in regards to a lot of problems there's not much the President can do.
If the President wants to pass something it has to go through Congress, which is basically the most corrupt house in the world right now. Politicians care not about YOUR needs or YOUR safety. If they did, they would not have rationally passed this NDAA thing. Their pockets are lined with bribes from things ranging from RIAA/MPAA, the healthcare industry, to the oil industries. No, that isn't conspiracy theory. It's called lobbying.
Politicians are corrupt. You could have the purest most sincere President with the greatest intentions of fixing this country's problems but he cannot do a goddamn thing about it. He is powerless to a machine that has had ample time to bind to the political devices in this country and separating it now is virtually impossible. You cannot win.
We're at a point where things are growing exponentially worse, and the "patriotism" exhibited by the USA is fucking terrifying. In regards to other countries around the world, we're still "new". Only 300 years old. European countries are so old they have castles, and Middle Eastern countries are where anthropologists hypothesize humanity fucking STARTED. The USA showed up and kicked everybody's asses for a good few centuries and everybody got all pumped up that we're #1 and we're always #1 and we police the world because we're the United States and fuck you if you disagree.
Our country is just a bratty spoiled kid who is getting a time out and collectively people cannot fucking keep their shit together and that's why nothing is working and everything is coming apart. The USA is falling from grace and the people running it are in a permanent state of paranoia and that is not the ideal mindset for making important decisions. We're a country founded on the principles of entitlement (kicking Indians off their land), violence (policing the world with stupid wars), and fear (feeding Americans only bad news and negative gossip) -- and now everything is going to hell and everyone is psychotic.
No thank you.

What defines a terrorist in that document? I feel like they could easily twist protests into accusations of "terrorism" and actively become a police state with no free assembly.

You have the choice of having your internet regulated by corporations or paying 10x as much for it.
IMPORTANT: loli is illegal here (bummer i know) so you should be careful about that.

Anything they disagree with can be misconstrued as "terrorism". If you're wondering how crazy these people are, just go to an airport and see the shit that happens EVERY DAY.

Thankfully I prefer my dragons 18 and over. :kirby101:
Still, I'd rather pay more for unrestricted internet.
