View Full Version : Swine Flu Almost Pandemic?

Dragonfire93

I just saw this on the news a few hours ago. A news reporter said that this pandemic actually had the potential to kill people... What do you think about this? It also said in the news that the hygene and quarintine of most countries are not very helpful. Masks that are used to protect the mouth (while leaving room to breathe) are mostly cheap and don't protect properly. What do you think that the swine flu will be like? Will it be big, or will it be small? What do you think?

Every year same thing.
Last year it was bird flue, now its swine.

I don't know is it true, probably it is.
I believe we need to x-terminate sick pigs and cure people.
Also, have lots of medical near by

There was no bird flu last year, I think it was 3 or 4 years ago.

All I do is clean my body properly.

Swine flu will probably be serious, but it's NOT gonna be the zombie invasion the press makes it out to be.

It's fairly boring being trapped inside, while people are running around like a chicken with their heads cut off screaming that the world is going to end, when nothing series is happening.

It hasn't spread to Ireland yet, but I suspect it will come here by the end of the week, this is horrible and a vaccine is at least 4 months away.
But, you know it's wierd. In Mexico about 150 people have died from Swine, but 1,000's of people die everyday in Africa because of diseases like Malaria, but no one gives a darn shit about that.

Just heard on the news some chick said, "It's time to close the nations borders..yada yada yada...all countries should activate pandemic plans, and that the whole humanity is under a huge threat."

geez..

that does sound bad, im homeschooled so i dont really care about school that much, i would still be working if everything shut down anyway

sure people are dying from the disease but people die ALL THE TIME
it may sound dark but at least this helps with the population crisis a little:101:

If you get treated for it early, you'll be ok, most people that died didn't go to the doctor for a while I think.

Yeah or they didn't even know they had it probably. I don't really know how to take it, but today my school got a letter about it saying what to do if your sick, someone close to you is sick, etc.

Most cases are only mild. For what I know no one has died outside of Mexico. People ho have the swine flu in other countries it is mild and they are recovering. Dont worry yourself too much.

Although it could pick up and get more serious.

A 5 month or 5 year old baby died in the U.S. It was probably because its immune system was weaker than an adults or teens.

it was actually a mexican baby too, making the entire point moot!

It's just a hype- it's influenza + diarrhea/vomitting, which you have a chance of getting anyway. c: If you don't worry about it, you won't get ill as easily- if you worry too much, your immune system will begin to shut down/overwork itself and you will just put yourself more at risk.

I don't see the point in worrying. I mean, things like this come by every now and then. All we can do is pray that a cure is found since we aren't medical experts and cannot contribute at all to this.

there's a type of flu that is reputed to have vaccination properties against swine flu; but it doesn't really matter, unless you're 2 or 200 you're probably not going to die from it, just be ill for a while. the effects are just like normal flu- the most probably way you'll die is from dehydration due to diarrhea and/or vomitting.

It is definetely going to be big because it has already killed a 23 month old baby in the US.

I think it is actually fairly scary. Apparently 9 people have got it in the UK.

For precautions I am:

Not using public transport
Not eating food from restaurants etc
Not eating pork
Carrying lots of tissues with me
Squeezing into my sleeve
Always washing my hands after I sneeze
Carrying a squirty hand wash with me

Squeezing into your sleeve? And really, I'm not afraid at all. This is getting a tad bit pathetic. It's no worse then the regular flu.

It is not spread by eating pork or eggs; it is spread exclusively from people who are already carrying it. Your own sneeze won't cause you to get it, either.

Sorry, that was a typing error. I meant to say 'Not eating pork'. I know you can't get it if you eat cooked pork, but you can still get it if the pork isn't cooked enough. I know it is very unlikely that I will through eating it, but I would still rather be safe than sorry. I know my own sneeze won't lead to me getting it, but if I did have it without knowing, then I wouldn't want to pass it to others.

Pathetic? :( I can't help it, I naturally have a overreacting, conscious and worried personality. OCD doesn't help either.

I have obsessive compulsive disorder and this doesn't bother me at all. Blaming things on mental conditions is not cool. :C

And the pork in question is from one specific pig farm in Mexico; people start rumours about stuff like this to get you riled up. You're not going to die from eating undercooked pork. Just calm down, the more you worry, the more likely you will get it.

(Apologies in advance if I appear snippy or whatever; I'm just so fed up about the swine flu thing going around.)

If you take the injection before you get the swine flu, then you will be immune to the current swine flu. However, if the flu mutates, then the flu would get worse and people wouldn't be immune to that one. That means that is people have the injection, they will probably get hit really bad by the flu if it mutates and gets worse. It is probably better to just get the current (moderate/mild) form of it now and then you won't get the severe version. The governments aren't advising anyone to have the injections unless they actually get the swine flu. I hope what I said all made sense.

The current strain of Swine Flu is a mutated version. It's avian flu and swine flu mashed together. That's why everyone is freaking out because no one knows anything about this new virus and how our immune system will react to it. Getting a flu shot now would be pointless as it's designed to target and fend off a certain strain of flu and the current swine flu virus is a strain we have never seen before. Some drugs like Tamiflu seem to work if used early enough.

Well it might not be OCD that is causing me to act this way. I have never been this worried about cleanliness before. Well I do sort of blame OCD because I am acting a bit obsessive and compulsive about the swine flu.

And the flu can still live in the pork, until it is cooked properly. Getting swine flu in undercooked raw/pork may be equivalent to getting salmonella in raw/undercooked poultry/eggs. I am such a worrier though, but I think I am getting calmer.

And you didn't appear snippy at all. I think everyone is fed up with the swine flu talk. :)
