It's about goddamn time. Sure, technically this game was already released for X360 via the recent "Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection" compilation disc, but that seemingly-too-easy collection of classics gave this poor title one measly achievement: Collect 100 rings as Tails in Angel Island (aka "just do some random dumbass shit on the first level").
Sonic's UGC cost $30 new, which is about three times more than what Sonic III is likely going to cost for XBLA, but I'd say it's worth it. I like playing the classics with achievements peppered into them because in some instances it gives them a new twist, to do things differently or better than you used to. I'm pleased with the new achievements for the game, it seems they did it right this time by throwing out the stupid "BEAT GREEN HILL ZONE IN 30 SECONDS" achievements from the original Sonic and the god awful multiplayer achievements from Sonic 2 (Sonic 3 also supports multiplayer). Can't say I'm a fan of the whole "get to this level" achievements though, they are almost a giveaway.
Here's to hoping Sonic & Knuckles makes its way to XBLA as well, with Lock-On support.
