3D Realms, creators of the Duke Nukem series of games, closed its doors yesterday after being in business since 1987. They are responsible for such titles as Wolfenstein 3D, Commander Keen, Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold, Biomenace, and other titles under the label Apogee Software.

Duke Nukem Forever (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_Nukem_Forever) was their "flagship" title being in production of some sort for 12 years. To put that into perspective entire wars that shaped history have been fought in less time. DNF was the butt of many "never gonna get finished" jokes much to the disdain of the creators who insisted it would be completed.

And now it's dead. For good. :(

The 3D shooter version of Duke Nukem (cleverly titled "Duke Nukem 3D") is available for $10 on XBLA. One of my favorite games of all time and easily worth the money if not just for the womanizing Johnny Bravo-ish humor Duke tosses around.

Plus you can tip strippers in that game. And sing karaoke. And shit down bosses' spines.

I loved Duke Nukem 3D. I also thought the different places in the game like the movie theater and the nightclub were nice touches.

Oh yeah, the strippers. My dad blocked that out for me, I knew there was an option to censor it but I didn't know the password to unblock it.

Name fail.

I think most of us here are too young to know about it though.

Maybe it will be released as abandon ware, or maybe a pirated early version rom will make its way out on to the internet.
