View Full Version : In the End by Linkin Park
I kept hearing about this song in "What are you listening to" threads so I decided to check it out. I expected some kind of big, epic, entertaining rock closer to Linkin Park's most recent album (not very recent though, wasn't it released in like 2006?)
The song sucks. It sounds like a prepubescent boy is singing the vocals and the "rap" part. The lyrics sound like something the Jonas Brothers would write. Cheesy and targeted toward young kids. The rest of the song sounds manufactured and put together in a matter of minutes by some stoner DJ in a studio.
Is this what Linkin Park has become? I remember I used to love their album Meteora. But this new album, Minutes to Midnight, SUCKS.

"In The End" was a single from their debut album Hybrid Theory in 2000.

Whoa. I did not expect that.
I guess it was 2000, right after the 90s when everything sounded pop-ish, so they can be excused.

Yes, In The End is a terrible song, but Bleed It Out takes the cake for the worst song they've done and the worst song in the history of music.
But yeah, In The End has really weak lyrics, particulary the cliche rapping. The chorus is annoying and it sounds like some stupid nerdy angry sixteen year old is singing.

Bitch, I don't know what you're talking about. Linkin Park is an amazing band. Any Nu-Metal band is an amazing band.

In that case, Jonas Brothers is kick-ass.
=D I actually like the song. I guess the young kid is still in me.

Nu-metal is for fags. Listen to real metal like Dio, Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, Metallica, Iron Maiden, etc.

Pfft, yeah, go ahead and name drop a bunch of bands that we've all known about since the 80's.
Genghis Tron, Dillinger Escape Plan, Opeth, that's where it's at for metal.

Heaven and Hell technically didn't exist in the '80s.
The bands you listed have nothing on the old folks I listed. Metalcore, death metal, and all of those other inferior sub genres suck.

Try listening to them and stop looking at their Wikipedia articles. They're far more talented and unique than your precious METAL GODS. I suppose you think that because they scream/growl it doesn't qualify as music.

If they can still perform well when they're 67, I'll eat my hat.

Be prepared. You're not that weak at 67.

That is impressive. If I can still play the sax at 92, I would be the happiest man on Earth.

That was happening to me as well but luckily I figured out what it was. Some people have sounds attached to their AIM so when they login it plays it. One of my more retarded friends had the opening bars of the song and a wireless internet connection issue. SO it would happen every 5 minutes or so. Fortunately, I figured this out, disabled sounds in my AIM settings, then, for good measure, block said retarded friend.
Hope this helps. :):)

The thing with Linkin Park is, at least on their first two albums, they use the SAME DAMN FORMULA for ALL of their songs.
1. Start with a few quiet synth chords.
2. Explode into metal after the quiet introduction.
3. Entire song must have predictable 4/4 meter.
4. All verses have singing alternated with rap.
5. All choruses make sure to alternate major and minor key for that yearning feeling.
6. Lyrics are about the angst that every high school freshman can identify with.
I fucking HATE that this formula makes pretty music. It's so goddamned CHEAP and people fall for it hook line and sinker.

I listened to In The End for a short while when I was in 8th grade. It's a good song, but unfortunately when it's put next to the rest of the album, it becomes an obvious product of formula and thus loses all meaning.
