View Full Version : Harry Potter and the Half-Assed Attempt at Condensing a 700-Page Book
They tried. They tried so hard. But it just didn't work. Oh well, at least Book 7 is getting two movies.

Yeah, needed to say that. Honestly The movies don't seem that bad, I'd probably watch them for some fun, but if it is outragously bad, EX: Harry does some shit that shouldn't happen in the book, I'll probably hate it.

why the fuck did they burn the weasley's house down, when half of the next book happens there?

You mean like not saving Dumbledore's life when he was perfectly able to, unlike in the book where Dumbledore intentionally made sure Harry wouldn't try to save him by freezing him?

Yeah and what happened to the battle in the castle? Where is everything?!
Good movie, but where is most of the book?

Just seen it. I'm going to say fuck you rigs for ruining my whole opinion of it. I still doubt it even though it was rather good. Bah. Last time I'm listening to a miserable old coot.
Oh fuck.
Grab the pitchforks and torches people.
I'm a fan of the books. As Ron said, "You have to hate it. On principle."
Anyway, I saw it for the third time today, and while it is a beautifully photographed movie that transitions very well from scene to scene despite the lengthiness of the book, it still feels like it only exists to keep us ready for Deathly Hallows.
That's why they cut out the battle at the end. Because the director knew that film adaptations always draw out fight sequences for dramatic effect, and it would seem redundant to have battles at Hogwarts in both the adaptation of the sixth book and part two of the adaptation of the seventh book.
Oh, and I dunno why my opinion of it would affect yours. I've read rave reviews for movies, and considered them HUGELY overrated upon seeing them (Borat, anyone?) and I've read negative reviews of films and then loved them when I finally got around to seeing them (ie Hulk, which everyone hated because these fans of superhero movies are mostly hyperactive 11-year-olds, who can't stand a slow, serious, stylized and at some times artsy film. Then everybody had a boner for the reboot, which was more of the same old old. Though it did have that guy from Fight Club. Oh, speaking of which, Helena Bonham Carter was the highlight of HBP.

No shit. They don't want you to know what happens next. It would be pointless where you could just bring in a book and read off what is going on in the movie in order where it is exactly the same.
