I have the exact same bass guitar that the bassist in that video uses, and I got it for about $300 - with an amplifier, headphones, and start up DVD included.

So...

Edit: And he switched to the other colored bass that came with the Squier Fender starter kit thing, wow.

Nothing wrong with cheap basses. If that's what a bassist likes, so be it.

I myself am a fan of a lot of sub-$500 guitars.
